Steampunk Quarterly – Writers Wanted
Perhaps through enough style and strength in numbers we’ll be able to give this wonderful place a less…douchebagy audience! At least for a time.
[pardon the double post]
I look forward to hear what happens on your next Edisonic Adventure - perhaps it can be reclaimed, or at the very least, you can show them how it should be done. Dressing to the occasion is a fading art, it seems.
It's worth a 2 hour drive if you combine it with other activities downtown, like shopping in those little markets, Little Tokyo, that type of stuff. Can't tell you anything about the drinks, we didn't drink there because our main objective that night was food.
So, food is cheap, admission is free, which may be promotional until they get their own kitchen and really get things up and running.
Nadya, great, thanks for all the info. I'm in Santa Barbara, but the next weekend I have free, I'll definitely make the trip (and crash at a friend's house!)
This reminds me of the Virtual World game place that BG mentioned a few weeks back. I think I still have a poster from them. LA is the place to be for steampunk themes!
Some related links from the intarweb...
obligatory 2nd St tunnel shot and an older exterior shot (credit goes to Martin of www.you-are-here.com, great photos in there!). For those interested in the environs, USC geography dept has a good USC walking tour overview of downtown. And of course, you could even live above The Edison.
Nadya, I'm glad you mentioned the outside. This "new history" kick LA developers are on has some warts.
What a displeasing array of offerings. And if they are charging eleven dollars for three devilled eggs, then the portion sizes of their other dishes will likely be sadly disappointing as well, especially to gentlemen of appetites.
If I could abide Los Angelese, I would want very much to go down there and work in their hopefully-soon-to-be-opened kitchen, with an eye towards introducing more thematic cuisine. (Alas, I cannot abide LA, and will stay in Seattle. I find it much more suited to my temperament.)
Hmmm. It does cause me to think about the possibilities of steampunk food, however. I wonder what sort of dinner party I could put together, and how many of my friends would be interested in attending such a thing. . . .
That, coupled with the fact that I've always wanted to host a dinner party of some kind, just never had the right guests to do so. *sighs*
I'd be very interested to hear any ideas for menus, etc. you consider.
This will require more work, but there are my initial ideas.
Yes, I am obsessed with cuisine.
